Dedicated to the One I Love
Since I've had Ivy I have been reading a lot of "mommy blogs" that are out there on the web. There are many that are so funny and I love reading other moms' points of view on motherhood. One thing that has struck me is how little the dads deal with the day to day parenting. There are some stay at home moms out there that do everything themselves. I also know plenty of moms in real life as well who do it all while the dads go to work, come home and don't get up off the couch for the remainder of the evening.
This has made me realize how darn lucky I am! I wouldn't know what to do without my husband as far as raising our child. Don does an equal share of the parenting and some days more. Since we both work fulltime jobs, we have a pretty consistent schedule. He has to be out of the house before me (sometimes before I'm even out of bed), so I get Ivy up and get us both ready for the day. He usually gets off before me, and he picks her up and they have their time to hang out before I get home. Most week days he has dinner on the table, if not he takes us out. We take turns giving Ivy a bath and putting her to bed so the other can relax.
On most weekends we have Jaden with us. Don always makes sure to spend some quality time with him. In the summer they can usually be found outside riding bikes, playing soccer or wrestling. He always ends up taking a few neighborhood boys along to the park. I get knocks on my door and little boys asking, "Can Don come out and wrestle with us?"
I'm grateful too that my husband is not one to sit in front of a computer all day or watch much TV (well, OK, he's watching football right now). He's a very active outdoors type and I know that he'll teach our kids the importance of being outside in the fresh air.
I know I've mentioned before that Daddy is the favorite with Ivy. Daddy was one of her first words at 11 months and she just now says Mommy. This morning when she woke up the first thing out of her mouth was, "Where'd Daddy go?" when she saw his side of the bed was empty. When I have her say everyone's name that's in the room she says, "Mommy, Bubby, Kitty and DADDY!!!!"
I'm lucky to have married such a great man who is also a wonderful father.
